Prevent water loss at home

Why should you do this?
Water scarcity and the need for sustainable water management have become critical global issues. A report published by UNESCO (2023) revealed that, in 2020, "26% of the world's population (2 billion people) did not have access to safely managed drinking water services, and an estimated 46% (3.6 billion) lacked access to safely managed sanitation". The scarcity of water can lead to reduced production and have a detrimental impact on food security (Hanjra & Qureshi, 2010). The Environmental Protection Agency states that the average American household uses roughly 300 gallons of water daily, with about 70% of it used indoors. Water conservation helps ease the pressure on freshwater sources and ecosystems, while also supporting global initiatives to combat climate change.

What is the goal and how to achieve it?
The goal for this week is to reduce water consumption in your household through practical measures. Check for and repair any leaks in faucets, toilets, or pipes. Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, keep shower time below 10 minutes, and use the dishwasher or washing machine only when they have full loads.

Side bonus:
Using water mindfully will not only benefit the environment but will also lead to cost savings on your water bills.
