Ban single-use water bottles for a week
Why should you do this?
Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to our environment, as the majority of plastic we use ends up polluting landfills and water bodies. Every minute people worldwide purchase around one million plastic bottles (Laville & Taylor, 2017). PET plastic is the most commonly used plastic and one PET bottle takes about 500 years to biodegrade (Orset et al., 2017). Plastic takes the lives of many animals each year, ranging from birds to marine life, impacting approximately 700 species, including various endangered species (National Geographic, 2019). By reducing the use of single-use plastic bottles, we can make the world a better place and contribute to its survival for coming generations.
What is the goal and how to achieve it?
The goal for this week is to lessen the use of single-use plastic bottles. This week carry a reusable water bottle and utilize water fountains or water refill stations to stay hydrated. By making this simple change in your daily routine, you can significantly reduce your reliance on single-use plastic bottles.
Side bonus:
Using a reusable bottle can help you save money, as you will not be spending money on bottled drinks over and over again.
